Why?

I was so frustrated by the endless struggle with clunky and inefficient VFX bidding systems. Each in-house system revealed a new maze of complications, lacking collaboration, undo options, and any modern form of version history. This frustration led me to release my own set of bidding templates that I had been refining for over 10 years: thus, OpenBID was born—a streamlined set of VFX bidding templates that renders everything else obsolete. Designed with privacy and collaboration in mind, and developed by a neutral third party to allay any fears VFX companies might have. It's more than just a tool; it's a revolution in how we work together during the bidding phase.

What’s Next?

OpenBID has already gained momentum in the VFX industry, with hundreds of companies worldwide downloading and utilizing it. My vision for OpenBID is to use it as a starting point for a set of open standards, even offering customized versions for every stage of production that requires bidding. This goal goes beyond just creating a tool; it aims to revolutionize the bidding process across the industry. Envision a system where bidding data is uniformly formatted and capable of instant communication with all the other production areas, allowing the impacts of minor adjustments from any department to be immediately apparent to all stakeholders, not just those in VFX.
